What does brown noise sound like?
Brown noise has a low, rumbling character. Compared with white noise, its higher frequencies are much quieter, so it can sound deeper and less hiss-like. The name comes from Brownian motion, rather than the color of the sound.
This generator creates a synthetic noise signal locally. It is not a recording of rain, thunder, or another natural environment.
How to use this brown noise generator
- Start with your device volume low. Brown noise is selected for you.
- Press Play my mix, then adjust the master volume to a comfortable level.
- Add a little pink noise if you want more texture, or white noise for a brighter edge.
- Choose a stop timer if you want a timed session. The countdown starts when playback begins.
Brown noise vs. pink and white noise
Choose by sound, rather than assuming one color is better for everyone. Brown noise favors lower frequencies most strongly. Pink noise has a more balanced texture, while white noise sounds brighter.
| Sound | Character | Start here if you prefer |
|---|---|---|
| Brown noise | Deep and bass-heavy | A low rumble |
| Pink noise | Balanced and softer at the top | A gentler wash |
| White noise | Bright and hiss-like | A crisp, airy texture |
A few things to know
Is this a brown noise download?+
You can listen in the browser or open Download audio to prepare a WAV file. Choose 15 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, or 10 minutes. Export uses your current channel levels and master volume.
Can I play brown noise overnight?+
You can leave the timer off, but mobile browsers, battery settings, and device sleep may interrupt playback. A stop timer works while the page remains able to run. Keep the volume comfortable.
Will brown noise help me concentrate or sleep?+
Preferences and responses vary. This tool is for personal enjoyment and background sound; it does not promise a sleep, focus, or health outcome.
All sound is synthesized locally. No microphone permission, account, or audio upload is required. These noise colors are background sounds, rather than recordings of ASMR triggers.
